Juventus Football Club, commonly referred to as Juventus and familiarly as Juve, is an Italian professional football club based in Turin, Piedmont. The club was founded in 1897 and has spent its entire history, with the exception of the 2006–07 season, in the top flight First Division (called Serie A since 1929).

Juventus is historically the most successful football team of Italian football and one of the most successful and recognized in the world. According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, an international organization recognized by FIFA, Juventus were Italy’s best club of the 20th century and the second most successful European club in the same period.

Overall, the club has won 51 official competitions, more than any other team in the country; 40 in the national First Division, which is also a record, and 11 in UEFA and world competitions. It is the third most successful club in Europe and the sixth in the world, with the most international titles officially recognized by one of the six continental football confederations and FIFA.

The club was the first Italian and Southern European side to win the UEFA Cup. In 1985, Juventus, the only team in the world to have won all official international cups and championships, became the first club in the history of European football to have won all three major UEFA club competitions.

Juventus has the largest fan base of any Italian club, and at 170 million also has one of the highest numbers of supporters world-wide (it. the tifosi). The club is a founding member of the European Club Association, which was formed after the dissolution of the G-14, a collection of Europe’s most elite clubs. The Torinese side is also recognized for its contribution to the Italian national team.

Juventus Coach

Juventus coach Alberto Zaccheroni has insisted he is expecting a tough match against Fulham in the second leg of their Europa League tie at Craven Cottage tomorrow evening, stressing the importance of a real team performance from his players.

“We are aware of what Fulham are capable of and the problems they caused us in the first match. They keep their shape well and have a good coach [Roy Hodgson] who understands Italian football,” Zaccheroni told a press conference today.

Juventus go into the match 3-1 up from the first leg in Turin and Zaccheroni went on to say his team must be focused and stay united on the pitch.

“We must keep our concentration and play as a unit.

“I have no doubt that tomorrow will be a very tough football match both psychologically  and physically because of Fulham’s pace and intensity. It is important to us, and to the supporters. I want to stress that we really care [about the Europa League].”

With both Gianluigi Buffon and Alex Manninger set to miss the clash through injury, the coach confirmed that Carlo Pinsoglio will start in goal, despite not seeing too much of the youngster.

“I have never seen him play a full match, but looking at his attributes I am convinced he has a great future ahead of him.”

Finally, Bianconeri captain Alessandro Del Piero insisted Juventus were taking the competition seriously.

“We have the desire to win and progress to the next round but we must take it one game at a time and that’s how it should be. Of course we want to go through,” he said.

Juventus Time

Giorgio Chiellini is confident that Juventus are ready for a make or break week, with two crucial matches in four days.

The Turin club take on Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia before a crucial Champions League crunch match against Bayern Munich three days later. Defeat on Saturday will Juve them fall 11 points behind Inter and a negative result against the Germans will mean Champions League elimination.

But Chiellini is confident his side will triumph. “These are make or break games for us, but we will go into both ties with no fear,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “We are used to certain situations and are also convinced that we have what is needed to re-emerge.”

Third-placed Juve need a win to keep themselves within reach of leaders Inter, and the Italy international admits their 2-0 defeat to Cagliari on Sunday put added pressure on the team to win this weekend. “The real blow was at Cagliari as the gap between ourselves and Inter grew,” he said.

Chiellini, who joined Juventus football club in 2005, is no stranger to big clashes with both Inter and AC Milan, and the defender knows the form book is irrelevant when it comes to games such as the Derby d’Italia.

“I never take to the field with the idea that we are going to lose and I’m not going to start now,” he noted. Nevertheless, this is a game where we can see a home win, a draw or an away win. It’ll be a balanced game as all these ties are.”
